He has served as a judge at international design competitions and as an advisor at leading art and design schools. He has collaborated with Brands including Dior.
Approach
Duyi Han’s work focuses on holistic aesthetic experiences. He considers his objects and environments as “neuroaesthetic prescriptions” ——intricate semiotics of beauty algorithmically guided by the Tao of time and change.
Inspired by Taoist philosophy and contemporary pharmaceutical practices, this approach is formless but incarnates into specific appearances in each project. Duyi Han draws references from diverse cultural and temporal contexts. By remixing and mutating “ingredients of beauty” in an algorithmic way, he “projects” the human mind and its values and “prescribes” visual content to evoke feelings. His work acquires emotional functions in areas such as mental health and contemporary belief systems.
Duyi Han researches on the evolution of art history and visual culture and how this relates to human emotion, zeitgeist, and mechanisms of the universe. Duyi Han investigates how such an understanding of change could bring meaningful contributions to today’s visual culture.
Many of Duyi Han’s collectible designs and architectural environments are highly regarded for their contemporary and groundbreaking interpretations of traditional art forms, exploration of psychology, and visual semiotics. In recent years, Duyi Han has developed a strong interest in textile objects, as fashion is a major force that drives contemporary visual culture.
